On May 24, 2019, Watts celebrated Grammy Award-winning artist Jay Rock for his contributions to the community. Over the last twelve years, Jay Rock has done so much to lift himself, as well as Kendrick Lamar and Top Dawg Entertainment, into the stratosphere of global music influencers! And all of it started at Nickerson Gardens in Watts! On behalf of the City Council, Councilmember Joe Buscaino presented Jay Rock with the first-ever Key to Watts for his contributions to music, culture, and most importantly to the community of Watts.
